Musical Mainstage is proud to introduce a new series, Time Capsule, which will explore and celebrate an entire decade--from its history to its fads--beginning with The Forties.
The Second World War cast a long shadow over the first half of the decade, and its consequences were felt all over the world, well into the second half. This was the decade that brought us the development of radar, ballistic missiles, jet aircraft and the jeep. But it also gave us commercial television, the microwave, Tupperware, Velcro, the Frisbee and the Slinky. Forties Hollywood produced Casablanca, Mrs. Miniver, The Maltese Falcon and Bambi. Great reads included The Diary of Anne Frank, Death of a Salesman, and Nineteen Eighty-Four. And the music? So much to choose from! Our top-notch cast, Chris Krasovich, Bryce Lord, Bonnie Scholz, and Matt Zembrowski is likely to give us everything from Nat King Cole to the Andrews Sisters. We’ll probably hear a little Peggy Lee, Kate Smith, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
Susan Loveridge and Jonathan West will narrate, along with introducing you to Rising Star Eva Stokes. Paula Foley Tillen will tickle the ivories and Jim Ryan will be back on drums. Join us for Time Capsule: the Forties as we tip an entertaining, informative hat to a fascinating decade.
