Hippies young and old will get their groove on as we celebrate the British superstars who crossed the pond and captured the airwaves.
In the late fifties, the rebellious tone and image of American rock and blues musicians deeply resonated with British youth, and by 1964, homegrown rock was sweeping Britain. The appearance that year of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show marked the dramatic start of what was to become the British Invasion.
Fresh on the heels of Hair’s “summer of love”, Musical Mainstage will kick start its fifth season with Glad All Over, a fun tribute to the music and musicians from across the pond. Singers Tommy Hahn, Neil Haven, Peggy Peterson Ryan and Linda Stieber, along with Rising Star Haley Haupt, will rock the house with a selection of songs from groups like The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Hollies, Herman's Hermits, The Animals, and Procol Harem, along with solo performers like Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Joe Cocker.
Our band will include Paula Foley Tillen, Sam Steffke, and Jim Ryan. Narrators Susan Loveridge and Mark Salentine will help tell the story of how these charming 'invaders' borrowed (often literally) American rock music and returned it--restyled, refreshed, reinvented.
